PROFILE

Diaa Ahmedien is an international researcher, creator, and lecturer based in Cairo. He specializes in the sciences of new media arts and creative technology. Diaa formulates original research questions and employs various interdisciplinary methodologies, frequently involving collaborations with professionals from all scientific disciplines to facilitate genuine investigations.

Over the course of fourteen years of collaboration with numerous specialists worldwide, Diaa has developed his thoughts and practices. He passionately believes that responsible practices in new media arts and creative technology should address pressing, timely issues of society's needs. He also believes that these practices should be embodied in sophisticated interactive systems that can process real and updatable relevant data and information, integrate lay people into the core of the process, and carefully consider the epistemic frameworks behind the entire process to secure accurate positions and avoid misleading metaphors.

Diaa operationalized his beliefs by using them as his own criteria to design his experiments. This required him to pass through multi-phase experiences to develop his theoretical and practical research line, through which he discovered his interest in the intersections between the artificial and natural world. Over the last seven years, Diaa has developed cutting-edge new-media art research projects that investigate the intersections between the physical, biological, and digital worlds and how humans are being steadily reshaped throughout the interactions between these three worlds at several scales and levels.

Through his practices and research, Diaa aims to define the role of new media arts and creative technology in integrating the lay society into the natural-artificial vibrant interactions between the world of atoms, genes, and bits, within the context of exponential technological acceleration. His goal is not to promote technological superiority but rather to wisely establish a position for humans to be technologically augmented while maintaining emotional, social, and ethical integrity.
